☆ This show was inspired by my recent diagnosis of a genetic condition called Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome. The Ehlers-Danlos Syndromes (EDS) are a group of thirteen heritable connective tissue disorders.
☆ My symptoms escalated when I was 19 and only recently led to my diagnosis at the age of 29. I will share more about my story on my upcoming blog page but ultimately I am not unique in having dedicated a decade of life to understanding my health before finding answers.
☆ There is a phrase in the medical field - if you hear hoofbeats, think of a horse, not a zebra - meaning to look for the more likely explanations before considering outliers. Since EDS is so difficult to diagnose, the symbol became the zebra. A group of zebras is called a dazzle, making Together We Dazzle the motto of the Ehlers-Danlos Society.
☆ Since its inception in 2016, the Ehlers-Danlos Society has had an exponential impact on the community. Spreading awareness and raising funds are critical to helping people get diagnosed and receive proper care.
☆ We host the annual art shows in Athens, Georgia. We raise money by donating a percentage of all artwork sales and collecting ticket entries to our opening and closing receptions.
