★ This show was inspired by my diagnosis of a condition called Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome. The Ehlers-Danlos Syndromes (EDS) are a group of thirteen heritable connective tissue disorders.
★ My symptoms escalated when I was 19 but it still took ten more years to reach my diagnosis at 29. Spreading awareness and raising funds are critical to helping people get diagnosed and receive proper care.
★ There is a phrase in the medical field - if you hear hoofbeats, think of a horse, not a zebra - meaning to look for the more likely explanations before considering outliers. Since EDS is so difficult to diagnose, the symbol became the zebra. A group of zebras is called a dazzle, making Together We Dazzle the motto of the Ehlers-Danlos Society .
★ We host these annual art shows in Athens, GA and raise money by donating half of all artwork profits and 100% of all zebra artwork. Our collective donations will contribute to advancing research and education of EDS. Read more below.
Artwork can give us a way to channel our life experiences. This show offers artists the option to share the story behind their work for viewers to read.
